The Lalit Mohan Thapalyal Memorial Festival was launched in October 2024.
Directed by Anjana Rajan, theatre group Through My Window presented ‘Alag Alag Raahen’ in Dehradun Town Hall, then at two venues in New Delhi.
This was followed by ‘Chimte Wale Baba’ also in New Delhi.
The inaugural LMT Memorial Lecture by Professor Vibha S. Chauhan took place on 8 November.

‘Natya Darpan aur Jeevan Darshan’
On 8 November 2024, Professor Vibha S. Chauhan gave a memorable lecture on the plays of Lalit Mohan Thapalyal at Triveni Kala Sangam Amphitheatre, Tansen Marg, New Delhi.
About the speaker:
Professor Vibha S. Chauhan is an esteemed literary scholar, educator and writer whose research crosses the boundaries of culture, music and literary traditions. She has lectured at Zakir Husain Delhi College for thirty-three years and was the Principal of Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi from 2018-2022. Between 2007 and 2008 under the banner of the Institute of Lifelong Learning, she was part of the first e-learning team at the University of Delhi.
In the span of the subject matter of her publications, and in her ability to move between academic writing, fiction, poetry, and translation, we find a gifted multidisciplinary thinker at work. Stating that she is profoundly interested in the evolution, impact and dissemination of popular cultures, Professor Chauhan’s journal articles encompass a sociological and feminist lens, including reflections on Adivasi social movements, myth, and community. She is the author and co-author of numerous books including a biography of the legendary singer Siddheshwari Devi. She has edited and co-edited several significant publications such as a volume of Bhartiya Bhasha Lok Sarvekshana: Bihar ki Bhashayein, also contributing sections on Maithili literature, Magahi and Surajpuri languages. She has translated plays, short stories and poetry from Bhojpuri and Urdu into English, including the 2018 publication Manto Saheb: Friends and Enemies on the Great Maverick.
